Do you believe in magic?
By Gina Lee
“Did you hear about the magician in the park near the school?” one girl asked to her friend.
“No I didn’t,”her friend replied.
“He is living in a big top in the park, and he said he is a real magician,” she said with excitement. “When he does the disappearing magic he makes a person missing, and when he does the cutting magic he cuts people and put them back again, and every time he does magic to the people he asks one question, do you believe in magic?”
“Are you playing a trick on me? There is no real magic, magic is fake,” she said with big laughter. “That man is totally crazy.”
“I agree,” she replied.
While I waslistening to their conversation I thought that the man was totally crazy. For awhile I thought about it, but I started to study immediately. My name is Alyssa, and I am 19 years old. I am living with my sister Rachel; my parents were dead by car accident. My family is very poor, and has no money to buy food
and clothes. I work in a store to earn money; my sister is too young to work so I have to work until very late.

When I was going back home after work, I was thinking about the things that I had to buy, holding a one dollar bill. That one dollar bill was the only money that we had now. While I was thinking, it was being blown away by the wind. I started to follow my money; following it, I arrived at a park. In front of me, there was a man with a big hat, cloak, and black suit. He was holding my money.
“That’s mine. Give it to me!” I said to him.
In his hand, my one dollar bill was turned into a ten dollar bill. I was surprised and thought about the conversation of the crazy man in the school. I noticed that he
was the crazy man.
“If you come tomorrow I will give you back your money,” he said with a smile, and he disappeared.
I stayed there for a while, and went back home. In my mind, I was thinking about that man. I realized that my dream was a magician when I was young, but now it is
not. Magic is fake, there is no real magic! I pulled my bed clothes to the top of my head, and I fell asleep.

Next day I woke up late; I hurried preparing for school. I started to run to school, and luckily I wasn't late for school. I sat on the chair and watched around. Students around me were laughing at me. At that time, I noticed there were many holes on my stockings. I was so embarrassed. After school, every person who sawme was laughing at me. I had to buy new stockings but I didn’t have money. I noticed that the magician in the park has my money. I hesitated for a while, but soon I went to find my money. On the way to the park, there was a bridge,on which there was a boy that looked like same age as me. He looked at me once and then he was laughing at me in front of me.
“Ha ha ha, look at your stocking! You don’t have money to buy stockings? Ha ha ha,” he spoke sarcastically.
At that time, the magician came to me.
“Do you want me to make him disappear?” he said to me.
“Yes,” I answered impassively.
“Abracadabra,”he said and the boy disappeared. Then he said to me, “do you believe in magic?”and gave me the ten dollar bill and went away.
At home, I was only thinking about that magician. Next day I went to the big top in the park in spite of myself. I asked him to teach me the magic, he smiled and
agreed.
“My name is R,”he said.
“R? Only letter it is a strange name, my name is Alyssa,” I replied.
I started to learn magic from R. He was a real magician. He could make snow fall in summer. He could also go to the past and the future. I was very happy with
him.
One day I was normally going to the big top to meet R. When I went in there were R, policemen and the boy that I saw on the bridge. They were talking seriously.
“He pushed me over the parapet of the bridge!” the boy shouted out loud.
“Raymond Lewis, 27 years, you had been in mental hospital; and you've been suspected in two disappearance cases. Let's go together,” the policemen said
seriously.
R fallowed them. R smiled at me. I was very confused. But I still believe in magic.
“Now you dobelieve magic, every magician in the world is a real magician,” he said to mewith a smile.
A few days passed, and a letter came to me. In the letter was written; I will be back soon.
Now I am practicing and prepare to be a real magician. Before I do magic I always ask, do you believe in magic?
