A Cessna aircraft was flying across the sky. There were only two people in there. One was boy who named Blake, 16 years old, and an old Cessna driver. The landscape underneath them was great. The step was covered by snow, and also the flying of beautiful birds was often shown in front of the unknown visitor ride on the light aircraft.
“What is the reason why you want to go to the industrial complex in Alaska?” asked the driver, “It’s very cold there.”
Blake was seemed to be hesitate, but he decided to say, “My dad and younger brother is waiting for me there,” he said, “all of our family except my mom will live there from now on.”
“Did your parents were divorced?” the driver asked again,
“Not exactly,” Blake answered, “just they wanted to live separately, they said. They won’t divorce unless my mom have other boyfriend she love, and I can sure she doesn’t have any.”
“You cannot sure,” the driver said, “don’t you regret to choose to live with your father”
“I don’t know yet,” Blake answered, “the time you promised was almost done. Do we close to our destination?”
“Almost” the driver answered, “I’m always proud of my time keeping ability,”
During the time in the airplane, Blake kept thinking what he has to do for his family. Does he have to care about his 14 years old brother? He thought. To explain his younger brother, Austin, he had a deep brown hair and same eye color, as tall as his brother, Blake, and always fought with him.
After Blake get off from the Cessna, he could see other several light aircrafts on the airport, and no big plain. It means here is not a very big or famous city. He soon could find his father, John, and his brother, Austin. While his family driving to their new house, Blake realized that the town is much dimmer and isolated than he expected. The only things he could see beside some buildings were a lot of factories lie among the mountains of Alaska.
“As you are watching,” John said, “Alaska was developed a lot. Now you can see a lot of buildings even in back wood countryside like here.”
“Well, at least I can realized that the landscape would be much better if there aren’t any factories here,” Austin said, “I felt boring about staying here even more than when I talk with Blake.”
“Oh, please jip your mouth up.” Blake said wearily.
“Anyway, dad, do we have any enjoyable thing here? It would be boring to just stay in the house.” Austin said with the facial expression as if he will die rather than living here.
“Well, there are some mountains which are opened for hikers,” Dad said, “of course, we have to pay money. I think we can visit there this weekend.”
They all were fairly positive about his suggestion.
They could arrive at our new house after 1 hour of driving. It was definitely smaller than their old house, and the temperature was very low in our house. They didn’t like about it, however they adapted to it fairly fast.
As John suggested, the family often hiked. Actually, they didn’t really enjoy it. You might ask that why they didn’t play with their friend, but the closest house of their friends is nearly 30 km apart from their house. Different with their expectation, the first boring semester was passed quickly.
Several days before vacation, they decided to go further, hike for 2 days through the mountain line. That was quite wondrous that there have a camping place in the Alaska here, however Blake thought that it would be quite possible around bigger city.
When we arrived, there, we putted as many clothes inside as possible, because there was freezing cold.
“Whoa! It’ very cold here,” said Austin, “Can we actually sleep in the mountain?”
“Of Course,” said John, “there are a lot of base camps and guesthouse up there. I think we don’t need to worry about that.”
The wind was quite strong there, so they had to put their entire head underneath their clothes. A guide, who would response for hikers’ security, was going to lead us through the hiking way on the mountain. The hiking was fairly hard for Blake and Austin, especially Austin who were the youngest. He complained that he should never have to come to the place like this. We arrived at guest house at approximately 7 o’clock.
“Ahhhh……… I hope we can continue our hiking tomorrow, it’s much harder than I expected” dad said.
“Ha ha, all of the amateur hikers complain like you,” Tom the guide said, “I hope you prepared some painkiller.”
The conversation was finished with Tom’s advice, and then we felt in a deep sleep.
The time when they felt some strangeness was next morning.
“Hey!” other hiker screamed out, “what happened? We cannot open the door.”
“Really, that’s true,” dad said, “it worked correctly last night.”
“Oh my goddess, hey!” an old man gasped, “See here through the window, outside is full with snow.”
We all rushed to the small, thick window on the second floor to watch outside. The snow was even filled the half of the window, and we could only realized that the blizzard was happening.
“How can it happens?” a young woman cried out, “I’ve never heard about the blizzard!”
“Be quiet,” Tom shouted, “the hovercraft will come to rescue you guys!”
“So you guys didn’t know that there would be blizzard?” a big fat man with bold head shouted to Tom, and the mood inside the guesthouse become heavier.
While people shouted each other and panicked, Blake noticed that the door and some part of roof is almost about to fall down,
“Hey, stop arguing! We have to escape from the guest house! Can you guys see the cracks on the roof there and weird sound from the door? The house will be fall down and we would die!” Blake shouted, “We have to escape through the window.”
Some people were so panicked, and tried to rush out by breaking the wall around the window and it made the crack bigger and bigger. Once the frozen window was opened, people forced their body out of the windows.
After Austin and Dad escaped, Blake and Tom were the only people in the guesthouse.
“Tom! What are you finding, quickly come out!” Black screamed out before he escaped from the guest house.
“Wait,” Tom answered, “I’m just taking snowshoes. We cannot walk on there without snowshoes.”
Tom finally succeeded to take snowshoes, and the house was fallen down right after he came out. Then they all wore the shoes, and started to walk around. Fortunately, the weather was better than before.
For next several hours, they just walked along the step formed by snow, and tried to find any kind of transportation which maybe can rescue them. However, it was though.
Then, suddenly, dad heard a strange buzzing sound.
“What’s that?” dad said, “That seems like a helicopter sound.”
Everybody kept silent at that time, listening to the sound. After every people noticed that it was clearly a helicopter sound, they all started to rush to the direction where the sound came from. Austin was the first person who was running, screaming out. However, then suddenly, fallen off on the snow. Unfortunately, the place he stepped was the huge hole. He started to dangle on the steep ice wall. Black came and caught his hands, but it was too heavy for 17 years old boy to pull up another boy who has almost same weight.
“What a stupid!” Blake screamed as if Austin is the person who Blake hates the most, but he definitely didn’t want to lose his brother. He finally succeeded to pull up Austin, and jumped up to the snow quickly.
“Please don’t be silly next time,” Blake said, “I almost lost my arm,”
Austin didn’t say anything; just lie on the white, soft snow, thanks for his brother.
The hikers were all rescued, and they could see a small article about sudden blizzard in Northern Canada and Alaska. Nowhere was written about the hikers who survived from the blizzard, but Blake thought it wasn’t matter, nothing.
There were no miracle happened, like their family could live together again because Blake’s parents were so happy, however everybody was satisfied with it, and it seems totally enough for everybody.
