It's Too Late,..
There was a beautiful forest just outside of a village. It was full of so many kinds of trees. On the edge of the forest, there was a pretty fir tree. He was still small. He lived in a very nice place where can gets a lot of sunshine and has fresh air. There were many other fir trees around him. Some were much bigger and others and some were the same size. There were also many pine trees too, because they all look so big, he wanted to be big too. He just cared about his height and did not care about warm sunshine or fresh air.
Many children in the village came to play in the woods. Sometimes they rested under the little Fir tree and often said,” Let’s sit under that little Fir tree. It is so pretty.”
But the Fir tree did not like it because he doesn’t like the word “little”. Every year, the Fir tree grew bigger but still not happy because other trees around him were much bigger. He wants to have big branches with many leaves, he wants to stand tall, and see many things in the sky. He wants birds to build nests in his branches. Two more years went by, he grew and grew and became much bigger now. “I’m getting bigger,” he thought. “I must grow taller!”
Every autumn, the woodcutters came to cut down the largest trees. The Fir tree heard the sounds” Chop! Chop! Chop! And Crash!” When the trees tumbled down, the Fir tree became very frightened. He wondered why did the men cut down the trees and where did they go? He saw some swallows and asked them what happen to trees that cut down by people.
The swallows answered” I think I saw them! I flew to Egypt and I saw many ships. There were giant masts on the ships”
This made the Fir tree happy because he imagined that one day he could sail across the sea too. He thought, “I want to be a gigantic mast with dancing sails!”
The air and the sunshine heard the tree and said, “Don’t wish for another life. Be happy now. You have warm sunlight and a healthy trunk.” But the Fir tree did not understand them.
This year, the woodcutters came before Christmas. This time, they did not cut down big trees. It made the Fir tree confused. “Why are they cutting down young trees?!” some sparrows sitting in his branches, so the Fir tree asked them, “Where are the trees going this time? Those trees are smaller than me but why did the men cut them down?”
The Sparrows said,” We know! We looked through some windows in the village. The trees go there and they will wear so many colors and lights. They will live in a warm room with many presents under them and looked so happy.”
The Fir tree was very interested in this. The tree thought,” It sounds wonderful. It is better than sailing across the sea. I want to live in such place. I stayed so long in this forest so something better must be waiting for me!”
Again, the sunlight and the air heard the tree. They said to him,” Don’t be so foolish. Your life in the forest is the best, be happy with that.” But the tree still cannot understand it so ignored them.
Finally, the woodcutters came. They stood in front of him, and said,” this one will be perfect.”
After a few minutes, the tree fell down to the ground. It was different from what he had dreamed. Suddenly, he felt very sad.
“My home! I will never see it again, never feel the fresh air or the warm sunlight, and never hear the birds sing again.”
Now he realized that he lost the best place for living, because the crash between him and the ground was so strong, he fell in a long and deep sleep. When he woke up, he was put into a large room and looked around the room curiously. Soon, many young boys and girls came in to decorate the tree with many colorful decorations. On the top, they put a large shining star. He looked beautiful. Now he thought his life will be wonderful and felt good about the future, but he was absolutely wrong about his future. During Christmas, the whole family sang, played, talked around the trees but in the next morning, no one came to see him. Today, people pulled the tree down and put him in the dark room. He was forgotten.
One day, the door opened and people came in. The tree thought they come to give him a new life. However, they throw the tree down onto the floor and took it outside. There was a beautiful garden. The tree relaxed in the sunlight and spread out the branches, suddenly he noticed he is going to die. He couldn’t move his branches and it became yellow.
Some kids came to the garden and saw the tree said,” Look at the ugly tree!” and they take away the star on top of it. The kids are gone and the woodcutter came again. They cut tree into many pieces and each pieces of the tree was waiting to burn. The tree cried in fear, but it’s too late.
